New dance teacher for our Over 65s GEMS classes

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

We’re very excited to announce that Keeleigh Hamilton has taken over as teacher for our GEMS classes, our Winchester dance sessions for Over 65s, and held in Winnall on Tuesdays and Weeke on Thursdays.

Keeleigh is also doing a fabulous job as our Fundraising Officer, and having trained in dance at the University of Winchester, we’re delighted she’s expanding her role within Move Momentum.

Keeleigh says: “I've always enjoyed various styles of dance, including contemporary, ballet, street dance, salsa and jazz.

“I enjoy teaching various groups in different settings, but have a particular interest in teaching and participating in intergenerational dance, bringing together people of different ages and backgrounds. In addition to this, I've always enjoyed working with over 65s (as a teacher but I have also been a carer) as I love hearing about their life experiences and often find them motivational.”

Keeleigh received a BA (Hons) in Dance at the University of Winchester in 2022. During her first year, she developed a particular interest in community dance, and in how dance can be used to improve mental health and well-being in different settings. In her final year, Keeleigh acted as Community Engagement Manager for the course's pre-professional dance company D@win, responsible for expanding the company's community outreach through inclusive dance classes and public performances.

Keeleigh adds: “I discovered Move Momentum when answering an ad for a volunteer helper at the GEMS class, and found the charity’s aims perfectly align with my interests and passion.

“It’s wonderful to have been offered this opportunity to teach our GEMS classes. The participants bring such joy and enthusiasm to every class - they really brighten my week - and I’m a firm believer in the benefits dance can bring to everyone.”

Incorporating a mix of seated and standing movements, GEMS classes focus on participants going at their own pace - and most of all having fun and making friends, and with the opportunity to socialise afterwards over tea and coffee.

Our Winnall class runs on Tuesdays during term-time, 10-11am, at Unit 12, Winnall Valley Road, Winchester, SO23 0LD, and our Weeke classes at St Barnabus Church, Fromond Rd, Winchester, SO22 6EF 10-11am term-time.

If you’d like more information about the classes, please get in touch!
