Meet JAN - Student Spotlight

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

Jan is one of our amazing GEMs dancers, a regular at our Over 65s class.

Jan retired two years ago, and says, “I was looking for something where I could meet new people and have some fun and maybe get a bit of exercise.

“I happened to see in the Hampshire Chronicle about a fundraiser that Amanda had done and I thought ‘that's right up my street!’ So, I came along - and everybody was very welcoming.

“We get to dance to music, and I love music. And I like to dance, well, do my best anyway and it makes me feel happy when I go from here. I think it’s good for your physical and mental well- being, being with other people.

“It's just a lovely place to come.”

Thank you, Jan, for sharing your story with us - and which is also featured in our 2022 Social Impact Report. We produce an annual impact report because, not only do we love hearing stories like Jan’s, but we believe it important to continually evaluate and monitor feedback from our classes and students, to make sure that we’re providing the best possible sessions for our GEMS’ Over 65s, our Academies’ 11-16 year-olds, and Liberate Dance classes for wheelchair users.

In a GEMS class we include a mixture of seated and standing movements - and it’s all about going at the participants’ own individual pace - but most importantly having fun, and making friends, with an option to stay on for tea/coffee and a chat afterwards.

So, if you think a GEMS class might be for you, why not come along and have a free trial - just book in for whenever convenient!

We have classes at Winnall and at Weeke in Winchester:

Tuesdays: 10-11am, Unit 12, Winnall Valley Road, Winchester, SO23 0LD Thursdays: 10-11am, St Barnabus Church, Fromond Rd, Weeke, Winchester, SO22 6EF

And classes are only £3 per class, with discount available for block bookings.

We look forward to hearing from you!
